A PC tech worked on my PC the day the blue files appeared. Could he have done something to my files? Comment from Andy Rathbone Time July 28, at am.

Only one folder copied over before I realized the mistake. Thanks to You Uncompressed speeds things up too. One little check box — Damn! Comment from Red Time January 13, at pm. I have the same blue file name problem as the others in here, however, I never changed the settings to do this. Every file and folder on my system is blue, and I notice the check box is checked to compress. Again, I never elected to do this. Comment from Andy Rathbone Time January 16, at pm. If I copy blue files onto another hard drive, will they still be compressed? I need to move them from an XP computer to a Windows 7 computer, and many necessary data files are in Program Files or Documents and Settings. Comment from Andy Rathbone Time May 10, at am. Dave: The answer depends on how your new PC is set up. Try copying one file over and see if it stays compressed blue.

PuterPerson Thread Starter. Joined Jul 15, Messages Please forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I noticed that in my documents, some files are listed in blue color and some in black.

I cannot figure out why? This happened like overnight. Does anyone have an explanation, please? And if it's dumb and you want to laugh at me, that's fine, but tell me anyway maybe explain it to me like to a 4-year old, LOL.

I just feel totally stupid right now. Joined Apr 5, Messages That's because the files has been compressed. Is there a way to uncompress the files that were compressed as old compressed files. I activated clean disk and realized it was going to delete all my old compressed files, I then cancelled the action and later found a lot of my files to be blue in script.

Does this mean those are all compressed files and if so, how do I uncompredd them? Leo, thanks for some very useful information. I have just been battling with updating my McAfee protection and was disturbed to see all the file names in blue. Your webpage which I found on Google gave me the answer quickly and helpfully. Thanks, Leo! I appreciate the help! But others are audio files I have not compressed. Some are Cakewalk the audio recording software I use project files which I have not compressed.

Often when I try to open these I get a message saying that audio has been replaced with silence and that the file cannot be found. When I open it, there is silence, and a straight line where there should be audio waves. Considering the comment above about clean disk, if I have run disk defragmentation or disk check would those eliminate audio? I unchecked them, the files now show in black but there is still no audio.

Thanks Leo, I was confused why my files were looking in Blue. After the upgrade some files were in blue. I assumed blue files were of little use and deleted several of them. But anyways, this is some useful info. Thank you…. Dawn That is a feature of your email program.
