I think it was after trying av software on whs that i got my data corrouption issue. Then i tried avast beta 1, this was on oem, again i had data corrouption issues.
Has anyone had any issues using beta 2 of avast? Friday, October 26, AM. Hi Wes So far I havent had any issues with beta 2 ov avast hopefully not famous last words! Cheers for that Andrew, Im going to be re-installing whs onto my server again over the weekend, its currently running xp pro 64bit since i was miffed at the last data corrouption. Will try it with some test data again and avast beta 2. Cool, will also looking into trying that out. At the moment as i said above im using xp pro 64bit, on that i have sat Spybot, runs every night, Perfectdisk8 again runs every night, along with avast home user.
Most would install fine and seem ok for a day or so CHeck the review on Phil's Blog here : and how I set up the scheduled scans and updates Just another option that does actually work! Hope this helps I have Symantec Anti-Virus I'm looking at this one from Avast and I'm thinking about switching over. I love how it works with WHS and not as a seperate app. Thanks for the info Guys. Friday, October 26, PM. It is Symantec Corp It crashed my WHS and I had to reformat.
Andrew is reasonably correct with his advice. Had Avast been available 6 months ago when all of us Beta testers needed it I would have used it. Like I said, I tested 6 AV's see earlier post.
One crased WHS and the others locked portions of its functionality. Usually accessing shared folders from a client PC. Which is to be expected since they were Server compliant and not WHS compliant. Many of us have tested it and there has been no issues so far over the past 3 months. This argument is mostly mute since Avast is now in Beta 3. The most important thing???
Good luck. I was using the latest McAfee Server Edition but, even though it appeared to be working, made everything go very very slowly on the server. Accessing files from another compuer on the network was a 5 minute wait.
I had been trying to work this problem out for ages, then decided to try Avast WHS Edition, because I came to the conclusion it was either that or my network or server were not good enough specs. My server is now super fast Accessing files on it is now like using a local machine. Many folks vowed to stay with WHS v1, no matter what Microsoft was going to put out.
And every now and again, a donation comes in. Thank you! They released Windows Server Essentials, followed by an R2 version, but neither were ever priced appropriately for home users. I appreciate that Microsoft realized the err of their ways in killing off Drive Extender in the first place, but the first release of Storage Spaces seemed a lot slower and not quite as reliable as Drive Bender or StableBit.
Then a couple years ago, my trusty EX seemed to give up the ghost. Thankfully it was just a bad power supply. A good company called Overtek in the UK came to the rescue with a compatible power supply, and my EX was back up and running.
A friend of mine runs a small business and wants an onsite backup capability, along with remote access. While some may regard the EX4xx servers as old, obsolete and outdated, I beg to differ. And SSDs too! Yes, the MediaSmart Server is a powerful little machine. It ran them all, just not at once. Today my EX and EX press on…backing up everything, streaming media and providing me remote access no matter where I am.
Thank you HP for building us such a great product, and thank you for HP for building a product that helped bring together such a great community here at MediaSmartServer.
I've kept active in the Windows Home Server community, creating several add-ins and helping users make the most of their Home Servers. I added more hard drives, as well, to four 1. I got a Logitech Revue to which was great for streaming media, while my kids learned how to stream media to their PCs. However, in the past year or so, I became concerned about the lack of Antivirus software for MS Server and researched for a solution.
I did not wish to upgrade to the latest so I switched it to Linux. There are a few solutions but I chose a free one via Amahi which has a fairly easy solution with Fedora 19, a variant of Linux. I have a background in Linux so that was a fun experiment for me.
To this day, I have not had any issues with Linux and the system appears to work better, faster and more reliable than WHS. I added additional drives I have and created a duplicate program to copy all files to the extra drives I have on the server instead of RAID, which I read was not reliable.
But AVG is a viable solution nonetheless. But now we all have a choice. When I installed it, I had to download a couple of updates from Microsoft Update, but when that was done it just ran like a charm…. I do not have an. MSI for installing Forefront. I believe if I had an. This feature does not recognize the Forefront installer EXE. Name required.
