Also often people talk about objects that they are using which you may find interesting. Open their help files and integrate them into something you are working on. Don't forget the excellent tutorials that come with Max, either.

There is some really really good and mostly simple stuff in there that can be a tremendous help. For me the big breakthrough into Max came only recently when I started taking parts from all the help, tutorial and example files and toss them together to form something new -- instead of thinking that my patches have to be written from scratch.

For most ideas someone has at least a similar solution already. The best stuff i found so far was here on this board. But they're not big, finished patches, they're gems on how to do specific stuff. Bigger patches would probably not even be that useful, as your design of patches will often differ to theirs and you'll have to look for interesting parts.
